Orthotics and Prosthetics

What is Orthotics and Prosthetics?

Orthotics is the custom design, fabrication and fitting of braces and supports for the treatment of musculoskeletal conditions. These conditions may range from short-term, sports-related injuries and chronic conditions such as scoliosis, to long-term progressive neurological diseases such as multiple sclerosis (MS) and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Also included are custom and off-the-shelf foot orthotics and shoes used to address anatomic or postural imbalances of the feet and/or diabetic neuropathies.

Prosthetics is the custom design, fabrication and fitting of artificial limbs used to restore amputee patients to a more normal, active and self-sufficient lifestyle. Prosthetic devices have advanced greatly in the past 30 years with the advent of computer and microprocessor technology allowing prosthetic professionals to restore more normal function.

What our patients say about us
"The unloader brace that you fitted me with three years ago has been more than I ever expected.  It has enabled me to continue hiking in the Columbia Gorge without problem.  Twelve mile hikes are no problem with the brace, but without it, I woulf not attempt half that amount.  Thanks for all of the courtesy and expertise you have extended to me over the past three years.  You have me as a client for life."

-Bob, M

“I really enjoy the newfound confidence that comes with my knee brace. I feel more steady and supported while being active, as well as a sense of enhanced strength and security when dealing with previously joint-straining motions like walking up-and-down steep stairs. I no longer find myself bracing for the frequent tinge of pain that would often accompany the movement. Karen and the people at Genesis were very kind, reassuring and courteous. I’m glad I got over the stigma of what having a knee brace at my age means.”
